Bio Information
Alan
Penn is a 34 year member of Kiwanis who believes that there is no greater
calling than to make a difference in the lives of others. He puts into practice
his belief of the importance of community service.
Alan was elected as International President
Elect at the 2010
Kiwanis International Convention.
Aside from being active in his Kiwanis Club he is a volunteer at Garfield Elementary School, serves on the
Medina United Way Board, and serves on the Ohio Community Service Council of
which he is the past chair.
In 2008 the Ohio Community Service Council and the Ohio Governor’s Office recognized Alan as the State’s “Outstanding Volunteer”.
Alan
is past president of the Tombstone Virginia City and the All Ohio eMedina
internet based Kiwanis clubs. He has a passion for Kiwanis Next programs and
believes that innovative approaches for membership, like these internet clubs,
are the future of Kiwanis. “Growth for Greater Community Service Worldwide” is
a central theme of his commitment to Kiwanis International.
Alan
is a dynamic leader who is often called upon to provide education in the areas
supervision, strategic planning, leadership development, governance, and
organizational management for non-profit organizations.
Alan was elected as a Kiwanis International Trustee in 2006 and Kiwanis International Vice President in 2009. Serving on the Kiwanis International Board of Trustees, Alan believes that through our Kiwanis service that "there is no greater calling than to make a difference in the lives of others." He is committed to developing service leaders who are dedicated to serving children, supporting communities, and strengthening the world.

Family:
- Wife Jeri, a first grade teacher, who is Secretary/Treasurer of the All Ohio eMedina Kiwanis Club, a Diamond Level Hixson, and a Mel Osbourne, Canadian Foundation honoree.
- Son Randy, works as a Marine Max Company Sales Representative, a former Key Club member and a current Kiwanis member, who lives in Florida.
- Son in Law James is a radio personality and production manager for the Blitz Radio station in Columbus, Ohio. He is a member of Kiwanis.
- Daughter Jody, a fifth grade teacher in the Columbus Public Schools, a former Key Club member and a member of the All Ohio eMedina Kiwanis Club
- Two grandsons, Prestin and Pierce
Profession:
- Retired educator and school administrator.
- Faculty member in the Department of Education at the University of Akron.
Education:
BS and MS from the Ohio State University, post graduate work at Kent State, Wright State, Bowling Green State, Ashland, and Walt Disney Universities.
Hobbies:
Traveling, reading to children, volunteering at Head Start and Garfield Elementary School, making wood and glass crafts, collecting antiques, collecting PEZ, collecting Baseball Caps, Golf (USGA member and marshal for PGA and Senior PGA tour).

- Life member of Kiwanis with 33 years of service and perfect attendance. Currently a member of the Medina Breakfast, the All Ohio eMedina, and the Tombstone Virginia City, Montana Kiwanis Clubs.
